A universal conversion device that turns any traditional bicycle into an e-bike in seconds — no tools, no permanent modification.

problem

Going electric meant buying an electric bike. The conversion kits that existed demanded tools, permanent modification, and a mechanic's patience — and once fitted, none of them moved to another bike. Riders who already owned a bike they liked had no straightforward way in.

solution

CLIP is a self-contained drive unit that mounts to a standard bicycle in seconds and comes off just as fast — no tools, no permanent modification, and portable between bikes. The alpha and beta prototypes iterated rapidly toward a refined, injection-moldable final form.

The project began with a hard constraint: the device had to go on and come off faster than a rider would tolerate fiddling — and it had to work on bikes it had never seen. Early sketch work explored a wide range of mounting and drive architectures before the final configuration emerged as the one that could hold securely without asking the rider to modify anything.

The alpha prototype was built in-house and served as the primary test bed — validating mounting geometry across a range of frame and fork profiles, and exposing the tolerance band the production part would need to absorb to stay universal rather than bike-specific.

The beta unit moved into injection-mold-ready geometry and tightened tolerances across all mating surfaces. Final photography captured the product in-context and on white to serve both editorial and retail needs.
